Resume

Kevin Althaus

Graphic Designer and Web Designer with Marketing Experience

Greater Grand Rapids, Michigan Area

Summary :

Since the late 1990's I have had an almost paparazzi-like obsession with the Internet, design, and web development. This first started with learning HTML and (later) CSS but soon evolved into working with PHP and some content management systems.

As time progressed I started working more and more with design and Print Media, especially when I accepted a position at Michael Baker Jr. as a Graphic Designer. From there I went on to publishing magazines and working more with the print side of design.

Even though I was on the opposite end of the scale professionally, I always kept working hard to stay with current internet trends. I built and hosted multitude of sites, kept learning and working with PHP, and kept my goal of working professionally on the internet.

Now I build websites for companies and private individuals. I work with people who aren't well versed in Internet Technology and help them put their business online with as little effort on their end as possible.

During the last few years my focus has broadened to also include SEO, Internet Marketing, and Social Media Marketing.

Even though I am always learning and seeking out new information, my goal is to provide the 'entire package' to a client or company.

Specialties :

Drupal Theme Development, Wordpress Development, CSS, jQuery, SEO, Internet Marketing, Social Media Marketing

Experience

Marketing Director

Hurricane Bay Nightclub

(Hospitality industry)

January 2007 - May 2008 (1 year 5 months)

My role as Marketing Director allowed me to utilize a wide range of skills. It was my primary duty to create, implement, and track all marketing materials and activity. This included print, radio, and Internet advertising. I managed two other assistants that aided in the distribution of marketing materials.

I designed a wide range of marketing materials ranging from 10 foot posters to website banner advertising. It was also my responsibility to design and deploy the company website (which has changed since my departure), keep up with social media, and manage telemarketing activities.

It was also up to me to track the marketing efforts and decide which avenues were most effective for the advertising budget.

I enjoyed this position because I was able to see the immediate (and long term) effects of my marketing and design efforts. I was (almost) freely able to implement ideas and track how effective those ideas are/were.

Graphic Designer

Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc.

(Privately Held; Civil Engineering industry)

July 2006 - December 2006 (6 months)

Building upon previous experience as a Graphic Designer in the civil engineering field, my main responsibility was to design and produce proposals for private and government civil engineering and architectural projects. These proposals were produced within strict deadlines and often involved high level multi-million dollar projects.

Graphic Designer

Heartland Communications Group

(Marketing and Advertising industry)

June 2005 - May 2006 (1 year )

While I was with Heartland Communications Group my main responsibilities included designing advertising and editorial to meet the needs of clients while keeping with the branding of the associated magazine. I was responsible for the design of the ads, layout of the magazine, and the sending to press. I worked closely with clients, sales staff, and printing companies to make sure deadlines were met.

I worked in a Mac environment using the Adobe Suite and Quark Xpress when needed. I aided in the transition of a film to press environment to a complete PDF workflow.

Graphic Designer

Michael Baker Jr

(Public Company; BKR; Civil Engineering industry)

February 2002 - May 2005 (3 years 4 months)

My role at Michael Baker Jr. was to provide Graphic support to the Phoenix office and (at the time) the West Region.

I was responsible for designing and producing proposals for high profile Government Civil Engineering projects that were valued in the millions of dollars. It was also my responsibility to design marketing and presentation materials for said proposals, public meetings, internal events, and most anything that was needed.

In this position I most enjoyed the professional environment and the wide range of materials I produced.
